Its greatest strength is Chester hallmarked, between c.1570 and 1992, spanning a wide range of uses. After the collection's growth is set in the historical context of the developing scholarship of the subject, each piece is illustrated, described in detail and with a full background of the design evolution, its maker and ownership. An essential work of reference for all collectors and a rich source for students of the decorative arts and history of silver.
