Description
“Some of the Mercers' Company's Plate”By Col. Sir Frank Watney.
Published, presumably by The Company, in July, 1938.
DISCUSSION:
Colonel Sir Frank Watney was the Clerk of the Company, which lost most of its fine collection of silver around the time of the Unpleasantness brought about by Henry VIII's sack of everything not nailed down. The collection was resumed and then decimated by the economic crisis caused by the Civil War in the 17th century. There remained, however, several notable pieces of 16th and 17th century plate, which are described here.
Pamphlet. 5.5"x8.5", 8 pages, no illustrations. Minor soil, light wear, but otherwise clean and nice.
