his listing is for a rare vintage Selmer saxophone neck strap. Both the adjustment mechanism and hook look like an early plastic material...not bakelite per se, but something similar in that you can tell that it isn't 'modern' plastic. Somewhere along the line I recall reading that this style of strap was made at the same time as either the Balanced Action, or Super Balanced Action horns, and was possibly included with them as a standard accessory.
The styling of the strap certainly looks correct for those eras. I have only run across a few of these over the years, so that would also jive with it being a stock accessory, as opposed to a widely sold stand alone item. At any rate, it is a very cool item for Selmer aficionados.
I would say that this strap is more in the realm of collectible item though, as opposed to something for everyday use. That's not to say that it isn't in functional condition. It is, however knowing what I do about old plastics, I don't know that I'd trust my SBA hanging on that old hook. Also, the neck band is very thin, so not the most comfortable.
This would look great in a display case with other Selmer memorabilia though! The plastic parts are not chipped or broken. The neck band is not cracked or otherwise damaged. The band and the cord are a little dirty from decades in a sax case...not sure if they could be cleaned up somehow, or not. Overall it looks great though.
Please feel free to message me with any questions.
Thanks again for looking!
Note to international buyers:
Due to the current global pandemic, international shipments via USPS mail are experiencing significant delays. This is due to lack of available transportation (ie. mail is normally carried overseas as cargo on commercial passenger flights, however the flight schedules have been slashed). European buyers have experienced wait times of up to 2 months for shipments to arrive. If this potential wait presents a problem for you, please refrain from purchasing at this time. I sincerely apologize for this, unfortunately unavoidable, inconvenience.
